Overview

FinXTech, powered by Bank Director, is bringing financial leaders more opportunities to explore the technologies that are available to improve financial institutions to succeed and grow in the future. Together with Autobooks and Microsoft, Bank Director is thrilled to announce a series of virtual Regional One Day Events (R.O.D.E.’s). Each FinXTech R.O.D.E. includes expert speakers, moderated panels, and virtual peer collaboration exercises.

While all financial industry participants are welcome, this Central U.S. R.O.D.E. is designed specifically for institutions located in the northwest and midwest parts of the country. Despite being a virtual event, inviting attendees from a single region allows each R.O.D.E. agenda to be tailored to local trends and topics of interest. Additionally, with a maximum of 50 attendees per R.O.D.E., valuable connections can be made with industry leaders and technology experts that best understand the region’s current fintech landscape.

Agenda

  • Thursday, August 20

    9:00 AM – 9:10 AM CST
    Welcome: Setting the Stage
Al Dominick, CEO, Bank Director and FinXTech
David Koscheski, Director, US Financial Services Industry, Microsoft
Derik Sutton, Vice President Product & Experience, Autobooks
To kick off August’s R.O.D.E., we talk about the accelerated shift to digital delivery and trends we don’t see reversing.  In addition, talk about the consolidation of the payments sector — and why this goes hand-in-hand with consumer behavior.  Finally, touch on some of the stresses being felt by small and mid-size businesses right now, and what that means for the financial sector.

    9:10 AM – 9:30 AM CST
    Building a Digital Strategy
Amber Buker, Program Director FinXTech Connect, Bank Director
John Kamin, EVP and Chief Information Officer, Provident Bank
This session shares insights into how banks can approach the task of identifying customer needs and building technology partnerships to meet them. During the session you will hear one bank’s success story, and what they did to hone in on which functions provide real value to their customers and the bank.

    9:30 AM – 10:00 AM CST
Negotiating with Fintechs – Beyond Due Diligence
    Raj Patel
    , Co-Founder, COO & CFO, MANTL
When fintech startups began to emerge, many were touted as “disruptors” who would put the “financial industry dinosaurs” out of business — it hasn’t quite worked out that way. Instead, financial technology is impacting the industry in three main ways: changing consumer behavior, creating new business models and changing the basis of competition in the industry. This session reviews the principal issues financial institutions should address when evaluating their relationships with new fintechs, whether as a service provider, partner or affiliate. This session also reviews key contractual considerations and the importance of sharing the responsibility for, and benefits of, success.

    10:00 AM – 10:30 AM CST
    Break

    10:30 AM – 10:45 AM CST
    Integration That Worked
    Alain Glanzman
, VP Small Business Banking, Radius Bank
    Derik Sutton
, Vice President Product & Experience, Autobooks
Once a financial institution decides to integrate a new technology or work with a fintech, what are the next steps? What issues need to be considered and addressed prior to integration? What are things to keep in mind as the institution works together with the fintech – cost, culture, talent and timing? During this session, we hear from a financial institution leader who has had a successful integration.

    10:45 AM – 11:30 AM CST
    Peer Collaboration Exercise
What technologies allow a financial institution to grow their business? Is it through a partnership model or by providing a solution to allow the institution to better service the needs of their clients and expand their market share?  How can a financial institution unleash the true potential of fintech companies – and in return, how do technology companies expand their distribution?  During this session, attendees meet in predetermined small groups to discuss the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead as fintechs and financial institutions work to integrate new products and innovations. Peer Collaboration is exclusive to bankers and a limited number of representatives from sponsoring companies only.  Attendees must be registered by August 18 to participate in this session.

    11:30 AM – 12:30 PM CST

    12:30 PM – 1:00 PM CST

Now more than ever, financial institutions need digital solutions to drive deposit growth. Midwest BankCentre, a 113-year old family-owned bank, teamed up with MANTL to launch Rising Bank, a digital-only branch that raised $75 million in its first 10 weeks at a 60% lower operating cost compared to physical branches. Learn about Midwest BankCentre’s amazing growth trajectory.

    1:00 PM – 2:00 PM CST
    Demonstration Sessions
Scott Magruder, Regional Account Manager, Velocity Solutions, LLC
Ryan Fair, Senior Technical Specialist, Financial Services, Microsoft
